Medical technology has been practiced in the Philippines for several decades now. It was first introduced in the country on the heels of World War II. This textbook entitled Introduction to Medical Technology Practice in the Philippine Setting is designed to orient first-year medical technology students on the basics of clinical laboratory science practice in the Philippines. The impact of science, technology, and society on the health profession is also emphasized. Topics in this textbook are presented in a modularapproach to fit the students' level of comprehension. Self-assessment examinations are provided to help them understand the different concepts. Photographs and illustrations used visually clarify the textual discussions. Classroom activities, research outputs, and reflections on the lessons are also integrated to meet the students' learning expectations in an outcomes-based education paradigm. This textbook is an eye-opener for freshman students who are both exploring and discovering the significance of medical technology in the field of healthcare in the local setting.
