520 _aI have written this book for both the lay and professional reader. I hope that it will be useful to students of management (particularly personnel management) at diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate level, and equally to established practitioners of job evaluation. To encompass such a wide spectrum I have tried to balance the emphasis given to fundamentals, examples, and to more theoretical abstractions. Although a number of works already exist in the field of job evaluation, they tend to treat the subject as a discrete collection of techniques and applications unrelated to other affiliated aspects of the working environment. I have tried to relate job evaluation to a wider personnel perspective. I have also presented the major developments in an historical framework. I hope nothing has been lost in lucidity, logical development or interest by painting a broad canvas.
