520 _aDecember, 1975 Coauthor Arthur Shay calls the picture editor of Sports Illustrated magazine to suggest a story on the most exciting racquetball news since 1950, when the sport was born. Slipping easily into conversation, Shay explains that racquetball's seventeen-year-old "Mickey Mantle"-Marty Hogan-has just bumped off the reigning twenty-seven-year-old "Babe Ruth"-Charlie Brumfield-in a U.S. Racquetball Association tournament in Burlington, Vermont. What's more, Shay pitches, he has good action shots in both color and black and white of the historic event. Asks the SI editor, "Art, is racquetball the game you play with those wooden racquets or with the little tennis racquets?" No interest, but thanks. "Squash is the big court game around here."
