520 _aPrinciples of Medical Laboratory Science 1, offered starting school year 2018-2019, is one of the new courses included in the new curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program. With this new course, we through the Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health (PASMETH, Inc.), embarked on a journey to create a resource material with the best interest of providing students the essential information relevant to the field of medical technology. This book, also titled Principles of Medical Laboratory Science 1, serves as a comprehensive resource material on the history of medical technology and the concepts and principles integral to understanding the medical technology practice including ethics, biosafety and biosecurity, biorisk management, nature of the clinical laboratory, continuing professional development, among others. It explores the essential topics needed to grasp both the medical technology education and profession. The book contains component geared towards outcomes-based learning. The intended learning outcomes are gauged through assessment tools and self-directed tasks that further reinforce learning and promote teamwork, resourcefulness, time management, cooperation, and other social skills. Through the different components of each lesson, we hope that students gain knowledge they need as future medical technologists.
