The second edition of Industrial Organization and Prices is, like the first edition, a microeconomic theory-oriented approach to the field of industrial organization. The field of industrial organization has changed substantially since the first edition appeared in 1974. The second edition reflects these changes, as well as many of the shattering alterations in the economic environment that have recently occurred; for example, the six-fold increase in the price of international oil that has taken place since 1973. There is expanded coverage of the behavior of cartels, with particular reference to OPEC. Similarly, there is substantial coverage of the market structure of the U.S. oil industry, with emphasis upon the vertical aspects of that structure.
