The financial worries of higher education have not blown away, but they do not appear to be the obsession they were a few years ago. This is not to say colleges are better off financially. In some quarters, notably in the private sector, a real threat to survival exists. But even there the initial shock of curtailed prosperity has given way to a shirt-sleeve, belt-tightening determination to make do with what's at hand.
