Summary: The pressures of international competition are more prevalent than ever before. The impact of West German, Japanese, Korean, French, and British "know-how" is apparent in the production of both soft and hard goods, basic equipment, and end-use products. More than ever before, there is need for the application of the most modern techniques of methods development, worker motivation, sound time standards, and wage payment plans fair both to the worker and the company. The need for the application of these techniques is not only in the production areas of industry and business but also in the indirect areas such as maintenance, quality control, and office management. There is an increasing interest on the part of business and industry in cost improvement through methods study and work measurement. This fifth edition has been written primarily for the purpose of introducing new material that has proven successful during the past five years and updating some of the older material that still has application to modern business and industry. Specifically, new material relative to fundamental motion data systems has been introduced. Perhaps the most important new material that has been added in this area is related to M.T.M.-2.
