The first world war began for canada when britain entered the war against germany on the 4th of august, 1914. It ended four years later with the Armistice of november 11, 1918. During these four years about 10,000 canadians served in the navy and 24,000 in the air forces. In compiling notes to assist the reader with the historical context of this book.
