Introduction -- Rise of urban Cebu -- Urban residence in Cebu -- The Gorordo residence -- The Residential complex in the Philippines
The historical importance of Cebu has long been acknowledged. It was a major entrepot trade in pre-Hispanic times, a way-station of the historic Magellan and Legazpi expeditions, the initial base of the Spanish colonization and Christianization of the islands, and the site of the first permanent European settlement in Asia. It was - and still is - a premier Philippine settlement.
