The need to come up with the third edition of this book has arisen due to the assage of the landmark legislation for tourism – Republic Act No. (“R.A.”) 9593 also known as “The Tourism Act of 2009.” Consequently, substantial changes have been made in this book, particularly on Chapter II entitled “Government Involvement in Tourism. ” R.A. 9593 introduced many changes in the structure of the Department of Tourism. Tourism promotions have been transferred to the newly-created body “Tourism Promotions Board,” which, in turn, replaced the Philippine Conventions and Visitors Corporation. The former Philippine Tourism Authority is now replaced by the “Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.” Other chapters of this book have likewise been updated.
