Summary, etc. |
The dynamic growth of contemporary society makes great demands on the evolving field of urban design and planning. Guides, controls and study of this development have matured in the past several decades into an essential and integral element of our methodology of resolving urban problems. However, no single source existed for basic reference material that is needed by the planner and urban designer. This book gathers into one source vast and important factual references which are necessary to these professionals interested in physical aspects of current urbanization. The need for such a body of technical information has long been felt in this area of broad scope. The detailed information in this publication will assist us greatly to cope with the scale and rationale of the ver-expanding horizons of urban planning. It must be noted, however, that such book is never complete and the information it contains cannot be all-inclusive or final. Its usefulness rests on its approach in giving the planner, designer and architect the basic pattern of information required to aid in solving the many varied and complex problems of our cities. Also, the material which is comprehensive in scope, will be highly valuable to all disciplines related to urban planning. This results from the fact that the book, in addition to being a basic reference manual, also offers a wide range of data related to current practices which could be obtained only after extensive research. The general aim of this book is to afford those interested in urban planning - whether they be students, teachers or practitioners-a graphic reference of current urban design standards. |
