Summary, etc. | This book is designed to serve as a guide for anyone involved in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, or orientation steps of the employment process. For those who are not human resource development specialists, it will provide the skills, tools, and techniques needed to operate effectively in these areas. (The terms human resource development specialists and personnel specialists will be used interchangeably throughout this book. Although the trend has been toward the more all-encompassing term human resources, many organizations still refer to this field as personnel.) Depending on a variety of factors, including the size of an organization and the role of human resource experts within that organization, senior executives, managers, and supervisors often find themselves performing personnel functions fairly reg-ularly. Because so few professionals perceive personnel-related tasks to be an integral part of their job, they may approach this area of responsibility with some trepidation.
