520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. In this third edition of College Algebra we have tried to bring the topic material into line with recent trends in college-level algebra courses. We follow current pedagogy in continuing to make the functional concept the central theme, with special emphasis on graphing. As in the previous editions, we stress the many utilitarian aspects of mathematics by including a variety of problems stated in the jargon of business, science, social science, and engineering. New to this edition is an emphasis on finite mathematics. A chapter on the algebra of matrices has been added, and the chapters dealing with sequences, counting, probability, and interest have been expanded and rearranged for better continuity. These changes make college algebra relevant to students who find their major courses relying more and more on the finite mathematics of the computer.
