Summary, etc. [Article Title: Authorship Patterns in Computer Science Research in the Philippines/ Jaderick Pabico, p. 1-13]

Abstract: We studied patterns of authorship in computer science (03) research in the Philippines by using data
mining and graph theory techniques on archives of scientific papers presented in the Philippine Computer Science Congresses from 2000 to 2010 involving 326 papers written by 605 authors. We inferred from these archives various graphs namely, a paper-autiaor bipartite graph, a co authorship graph, and two mixing graphs.

Summary, etc. [Article Title: Automatic Detection of Student Off-Task Behavior while Using an Intelligent Tutor for Algebra/ Edgar Allan C. Bate, and Ma. Mercedes T. Rodrigo, p. 14-21]

Abstract: As more and more modern classrooms use Intelligent Tutoring Systems, it becomes imperative for our educators to determine whether these systems are being used properly, or whether students engage in off-task behavior. Off-task behavior is defined as disengagement from a learning experience. It can range from resting one's eyes to talking to one's seatmate. It can also take the form of "gaming the system" defined as attempting to advance through the curriculum by abusing regularities in the system.
Summary, etc. [Article Title: Traffic Data Analysis and Visualization via Iterative Data Image Rotated Bar Graph(iDIRBrG) Method/ Jona Bceral, Karmina Cabreros, Richelle Ann Juayong, Jasmine Malinao, and Henry Adorna, p. 22-28]

Abstract: In this paper, we present a visualization method known as the Iterative Data Image Rotated Bar Graph (IDIRBrC) Method that is capable of handling visualizations for largo time series traffic data set. This method is especially designed for visualizing data sets having the following characteristics: time series, periodic and multidimensional. It provides a novel way of constructing effective 2D visualizations of such data sets for a more efficient time domain data analysis against previous literature.

520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. [Article Title: Using Rhetorical Structure Theory in Automatic Text Summarization for Macry-Authored Documents / Allan Borra, Almira Mae Diola, Joan Tiffany T. Ong Lopez, Phoebus Ferdiel Torralba, and Sherwin So, p. 29-35]

Abstract: An automatic text summarizer system using Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) is discussed. RST is a formalism developed by Mann and Thompson (1988) that allows for discourse analysis of multi-sentence text. The descriptive representation of RST to texts was exploited for summarization. Some modules of the summarizer were designed on Daniel Marcu's composition style primarily on technical papers but the system was also evaluated to other domains. Preliminary test shows that the system may work well regardless of domain, as long as it has similar composition or writing styles with Marcu-authored documents. Subjective manual evaluation shows higher quality of the system's output compared to Microsoft Word's AutoSummarize and Coperic Summarizer. Automated evaluation using Sentence Recall versus gold standards was done although it was inconclusive due to distantly between tumag-authored, which uses paraphrasing method, and System-authored summaries, which uses extraction method

520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. [Article Title: The Application of Distributed Discrete Event Simulation Algorithms to Concatenated Local-area and Wide-area Netowrk (CLOWN Simulator) / Mario Carreon, p. 36-46]

Abstract: The Concatenated Local-area and Wide-area Network or CLOWN simulator is a network simulator programmed using object oriented C that runs on a single processor. This study aims to take advantage of the inherent parallelism of network models by implementing a distributed Java version of CLOWN (D-CLOWN) that can operate in two modes: one using the conservative Null Message protocol, the other using the optimistic Time Warp protocol. This paper pinpoints issues arising from this new implementation, describes the high-level system, architecture for model programmers, and provides benchmarks of the new system (and its different modes) as compared to a non-distributed Java version of CLOWN

Summary, etc. [Article Title: MDDT: Modern Driven Development Tool as Aid for Learning Programming Fundamentals/ Jeric Bryle Dy, Philip Laureano, Michael David Liu, Leif Romeritch Syliongjka, and Rachelle Edita Roxas, p. 47-51]

Abstract: In conventional ways, students, who are learning how to program. struggle with learning the syntax conventions of a particular programming language more rather than learning how to program logically. As a solution, various institutions have incorporated flowcharting as the main tool in teaching fundamentals of programming. Nonetheless, a flowchart is only as good as a design unless implemented to certain a programming language. Hence, in the end, novice programmers still have to struggle with the syntax conventions of a particular programming language.

Summary, etc. [Article Title: Developing Class Scheduler using Genetic Algorithm/ Dave E. Marcial, and Albert Geroncio Rivera, p. 52-60]

Abstract: This paper discusses the applicability of Genetic Algorithm a sa solution in developing an automated class scheduler system. Constraints like time conflicts, room conflicts, and professor information were organized, considered and solved in the study.

Summary, etc. [Article Title: MGOPT method for semilinear elliptic optimal control/ Michelle Valejos, p. 61-64]

Abstract: A numerical technique called multigrid for optimization or MGOPT that solves semilinear elliptic optimal control problems is presented. The given problem is discretized by finite difference technique incorporated with a multigrid strategy. To illustrate the MGOPT method, we focus on minimization problems governed by semilinear elliptic differential equations.
