Summary, etc. The Electroplating trade in the Philippines used to be in the hands of Chinese artisans. This trade, like most other trades is handed down from generation to generation and the techniques and procedures of the trade are generally considered a family secret. In schools, Chemistry is offered generally in the third and the fourth years, but curriculum content on electroplating is almost nil. The chemistry programs do touch on electrolysis of water and mention electrolytes, anodes, cathodes but from very general points of view. In other words, one cannot learn electroplating by studying high school chemistry alone. Not even by finishing the general programs in college. This little pamphlet is presented with the intention of helping any youngster (or oldster) desirous of learning the trade. The contents and the treatment, however, are limited to the basics. A few attempts will be made on processes generally used in industrial and commercial set ups. What you will learn here is designed to drive you further to look for better formulas, experiment with cheaper and locally available chemicals and learn more superior and efficient procedures in the arts and science of metalcoating. It is expected that a few hours and a few hundreds of pesos invested in this project would bring about profit to anyone daring enough to avail of what once was considered a highly guarded secret: Gold plating or "Dorado" in local parlance. This material will show you step by step the procedures in accomplishing electroplating jobs effectively. It is essential that you follow the directions carefully and observe safety precaution strictly. The activities you will go through is interesting and exciting but if you violate safety precautions the activities can become deadly. Please read carefully and if needed read the instructions again and again before proceeding. Never experiment by TRIAL and ERROR. Remember, you are dealing with deadly poisonous chemicals. Start by learning safety and integrating it in your work style. Let safety be the foundation of all your activities. With it you cannot fail, without it you cannot succeed.
