520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This book is concerned primarily with the foundation and development of British new towns inspired by the Garden City idea originated at the end of the 19th century. Since the Second World War many new towns, influenced by the British lead, have been founded in other countries. The purpose of this book is to give a broad account of the new towns of Great Britain, of the circumstances and lines of thought from which they arose, and an evaluation of their significance for the future of urban development. Short descriptions follow of the twenty-eight designated under the New Towns Acts up to 1977, with a selection of plans and photographs sufficient to indicate their form and character.
